I'm not entirely sure who this fellow is, but a while ago he was absolutely running rampant in my sketchbook. Outside of Trigun and a few Eastwood movies, the genre of the Western has never really grabbed at me, yet here I have a guy who seems to be cut from the cloth of "the man with no name" archetype, albeit with the addition of the odd eyes. Yeah.
I attribute this little flair to the fact that at the time I was watching Gorillaz videos, being that I had never really seen them or paid attention when they debuted in the 90's or early 2000's. Still as opposed to the eight-ball fracture of the eyes of the character 2-D, I was thinking a complete lack. We've certainly had plenty of the iconic "blind swordsman," so why not a blind gunslinger? Perhaps even one who not only didn't have sight but not even eyes? Maybe something supernatural? Like a trade with the devil a la the crossroads of destiny? I don't know.
I haven't fleshed out any kind of story, besides giving him a name I thought sounded interesting, and probably won't for some time. Still, the idea intrigues me some days and I was content to use Josiah here for practice both with Illustrator for lineart and Painter for color.
He is very creepy looking. What are the two flesh colored lines going up from his cheekbones to his hat? I am a little confused by those. Besides that, this is an awesomely creepy picture! I like the coloring, especially his beard right around the chin.
haha, I guess they couldn't be anything else. Umm...well I was going to try to say how to make it look more like ears, but when I typed it up, it didn't make much sense. Oh well, it adds to the creepiness factor .
