Forgive me if my Latin's a bit off, I used an online translator for the word "man." Obviously the title is inspired by the famous latin phrase and plot device 'deus ex machina,' but the actual drawing was just a classroom doodle which grew to be much more.
Originally it was a drawing of a robot, robots being something I enjoy drawing every once and a while, and then I drew a human mirroring it. With the addition of the man I added a human skeleton and robotic skeleton upside down on either side of the figures. The gears were added last to the linework as a way of practicing some layout concepts with weight.
I wanted to try things out completely in traditional media, as I so rarely do, so I broke out the markers for the robotic side and some old colored pencils for the human side. finally I scanned the artwork, did some minor adjustments to make the digital color closer to the real one and added the neat little title and lines. Sue to the overwhelming majority of the work being traditional I have decided to sort it into the traditional section.
The class I doodled this in was having a discussion on the nature of moral structure and ethics and my mind wandered to the subject of human-crafted intelligence. So I tried to capture some of the feeling I've gotten from such works as The Positronic Man, Android Kikaider, Metropolis, and I, Robot concerning the relationship between humanity and robotics. It'd be really cool if it worked. But really, what do you guys think?

"Love is to be given and received.
Love is to be cherished and trusted.
Or Love will surely be deceived and corrupted."
I believe that your latin is correct. I took two years of it in high school, but that has been 5 years.
